SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN ONLINE HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
Onlinetradesmen.com Bucks The Trend In The Irish Construction Sector
20th May 2009: Onlinetradesmen.com, Ireland’s largest service to connect consumers to qualified trade professionals, today announced that it has processed over 200,000 home improvement projects from Irish property owners since its launch in 2005. It estimates the combined worth of these jobs to be in excess of €1.8Bn. The service has also experienced a significant increase in property owner activity over the last 12 months, with the number of home improvement projects submitted to it up by 63% in Q1 2009 when compared to Q1 2008.
“Our continued growth, compared with a general decline in the construction sector, justifies our model of bringing the qualified trade professionals of Ireland under one roof for consumers to access” comments Ted Laverty, Managing Director of Onlinetradesmen. “These results suggest that not only have Irish property owners embraced the internet as a tool for sourcing trade professionals, but that they also require real assurances as to the quality of those services. People are becoming increasingly aware of the need to use qualified trade professionals where possible, avoiding directories and web sites where these assurances do not exist.”
While the Onlinetradesmen.com is designed to connect property owners to qualified trade professionals, it also provides tradesmen and builders with vital business support services. These services include providing trade professionals with access to work in their area, launching their business online with a professional web site, supporting them with group discounts and providing them with a private social network platform where they can engage and support each other.
“We hear reports of trade related businesses closing down on a daily basis” comments Laverty. “For this reason it is vital that qualified trade professionals market themselves correctly and embrace the internet as a serious sales channel. They need to differentiate themselves from the cowboy operators both online and offline. Onlinetradesmen.com helps them to do this, to win business and to cut costs in their businesses.”
