Calyx Group, the leading independent end-to-end provider of Information & Communications Technology (ICT) in Ireland and the UK, today announced it has deployed a range of firewall and network management services for St Michael’s House across its 100 locations in the greater Dublin area.
Founded in 1955, St Michael’s House is one of Ireland’s largest providers of services to children and adults with an intellectual disability. Headquartered in Ballymun, Dublin, the organisation now boasts over 100 different locations providing specialised supports and services for over 1,500 clients and their families. Services include, counseling, clinical supports, education, employment, residential, social and recreational care.
Prior to the deployment by Calyx Group, St Michael’s House suffered from an assortment of different technologies installed across its network. These differing technologies prevented integration and effective support. St Michael’s House needed to find a solution that could be efficiently and centrally-managed by their Ballymun office and would provide secure, high-speed remote access for the other locations.
Following consultation with Gabriel Kiernan and his team at St Michael’s House, Calyx recommended the installation of Check Point VPN-1® UTM Power™ firewall with SmartCenter management in the Ballymun headquarters and one UTM-1 Edge™ appliance in each of the remote locations.
Commenting on the product selection, Brian Gildea, senior account manager with Calyx Security said, "Check Point UTM-1 appliances deliver comprehensive, powerful network protection in a single, easy-to-manage, cost effective platform. Perfect for St Michael’s requirements."
The installation of Check Point VPN-1 UTM Power Management and Gateway Bundle for Unlimited Sites & Unlimited Users at the Ballymun office delivered consistent security and performance throughout the network.
Calyx Security agreed with St. Michael’s House to install the first few UTM-1 Edge ADSL appliances for the remote locations. As nearly 100 Edge devices had to be installed in nearly 100 sites, Calyx ensured St. Michael’s House was fully briefed regarding the processes and procedures to successfully roll-out the UTM-1 Edge boxes to all the various locations.
All the devices were pre-configured and tested by the Calyx Security engineers before being shipped to the client location. Calyx was on-hand to support St. Michael’s House should problems be encountered during the installs. Due to network upgrades, Calyx ensured that the UTM-1 Edge units could support both ADSL environments saving time and money for St Michaels House.
The second phase was the installation of Check Point UTM-1 Edge appliance for unlimited users in the two Regional Offices. "These installations happened a little earlier than planned" explains Brian Gildea. "The legacy Regional Offices firewalls failed on a weekend and we needed to install the new UTM-1 Edge units quickly. Our engineers configured the units and the installation was completed and running by 10 am on Monday morning. Check Point’s management software made this process a breeze."
Reflecting on the installations which ensured efficient network security, fast deployment and central management capabilities for St Michael’s House, Gabriel Kiernan said, "By providing us with firewall, site-to-site VPN and centralised management, the Check Point solution has certainly helped us to create a more reliable and secure network and has greatly reduced management burden. The remote access is now fast and secure and using one single-solution across all the locations have made it cost-effective and easier to support".
