Mr. Martin Cullen T.D. Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government has launched one of the most exciting e-government projects to date – a Motor Tax on-line Service. From 1 March, it will be possible to renew your motor tax 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using the internet, from the comfort of your own home, office, public library or indeed, anywhere in the world with internet access. And, importantly, you can do this at a time that suits you. To use the new service all that is needed is a credit or laser card, internet access and a unique pin number. The pin number will be sent to vehicle owners with the motor tax reminder notice which they receive in the post from the Department`s Vehicle Registration Unit (VRU) in Shannon. After the on-line transaction is completed, the new tax disc will be posted by the VRU to the applicant without delay. The Minister said that it is “our intention that discs will be put in the post the following day.” The website is www.motortax.ie or www.motarchain.ie (as gaeilge).
